Day 1: Kathmandu – Sundarijal – Chisapani (4-5 hrs of hiking)
Begin the trip with a drive from Kathmandu to Sundarijal, approximately 13 km away and situated at an elevation of 1,350m. The trek starts here, where the trail ascends steadily through lush forests to a traditional reservoir and dam. As the path diverges from the water supply system, it climbs steeply to 1,550m, crosses a road, and then continues up to Shivapuri ridge. The first stop, the Tamang settlement of Mulkharka, sits at 1,895m. Here, small tea shops offer a great spot for a cup of tea with panoramic views of the Kathmandu Valley. Beyond Mulkharka, the trail ascends through the dense pine and oak forests of Shivapuri National Park, eventually descending through rhododendron and oak to reach Chisapani at 2,300m. Overnight in a teahouse in Chisapani.
Day 2: Chisapani – Nagarkot (4-5 hrs of hiking)
After breakfast, follow flat trails for about three hours before a descent of around two hours brings you to the village of Chowki Bhanjyang, where lunch is served. Beyond this village, the trail continues on mostly flat terrain for around 90 minutes, then ascends for 30 minutes to reach the picturesque hill station of Nagarkot at 2,175m. This spot offers panoramic views of the Himalayas, including five of the fourteen highest peaks in the world, like Mt. Everest (8,848m), Lhotse (8,516m), Cho Oyu (8,201m), Makalu (8,463m), and Manaslu (8,163m), along with several smaller peaks. The sunrise and sunset views over the mountains are particularly stunning. Overnight in a hotel in Nagarkot.
Day 3: Nagarkot – Changunarayan – Kathmandu (2-2.5 hrs of walking)
After breakfast, enjoy an easy descent to the ancient Changunarayan Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This temple, dating back to the 5th century, is known for its intricate metal and wood artistry. Inscriptions from 464 AD are found here, marking it as one of the earliest historical sites in Nepal. After visiting the temple, head to Bhaktapur Durbar Square, a place rich in history and culture. Notable monuments include the five-story Nyatapola Temple, the 55 Windows Palace, the Golden Gate, and the Lion Gate. From Bhaktapur, drive to Kathmandu for an evening of relaxation. Trek Ends…
